Caddie Lindsey here! I shared recently that I was asked to sit on a panel at a women’s retreat and my first thought wasn’t, “I’m ready.”
It was, “I’m not qualified.”
And I think that’s a feeling most of us know well.
We look at our story.
Our resume.
Our background.
And we assume we don’t measure up.
But Scripture has never been a story about the qualified being chosen.
It’s a story about the chosen being qualified.
Jesus didn’t walk along the shoreline recruiting priests, scholars or the spiritual elite. He called fishermen. Tax collectors. Regular, working men. Guys with dirt under their fingernails and probably more questions than answers.
Average Joes.
Not polished. Not platformed. Not perfectly prepared.
Just willing.
And I can’t help but see the parallel in golf.
Golf isn’t reserved for the naturally gifted or the perfectly trained. It’s one of the few sports where you can start at almost any age, with almost any background, and build something over time. You don’t have to come from a country club legacy. You don’t need the “right” last name. You need a club in your hand, a little humility and the willingness to keep swinging.
You top a drive.
You chunk an iron.
You three-putt from eight feet.
And you come back the next day anyway.
Because excellence in golf isn’t about being born qualified. It’s about dedication. Repetition. Perseverance. Showing up to the range when no one is watching. Playing the long game.
Faith is similar.
God doesn’t scan the room looking for the most impressive résumé. He looks for availability. For obedience. For hearts that say, “I don’t have it all together, but I’m willing.”
That’s the story of the disciples.
That’s the story of so many entrepreneurs.
That’s the story of so many golfers.
Not naturally perfect.
Not immune to doubt.
Not guaranteed an easy round.
Just committed.
At 70x7, we talk a lot about growth, grit and forgiveness — in life and on the course. Because the truth is, none of us are qualified on day one. We become who we’re meant to be through practice, failure, humility and repetition.
God doesn’t call the qualified.
He qualifies the called.
So if you’ve been waiting until you feel “ready”…
If you’ve been holding back because you don’t think your story is impressive enough…
If you’ve convinced yourself that faith, leadership or excellence is for someone more polished than you —
Pick up the club.
Answer the call.
Keep swinging.
With dedication and perseverance, growth happens.
On the course.
In business.
And in your faith.
